The 2025 Guardian Games kicked off earlier this week in Destiny 2, bringing exciting new content for players. Alongside the event, Bungie accidentally released some of its Rite of the Nine activities ahead of schedule in the latest update. Despite this mishap, players will get to keep any weapons they earned from completing these activities.
Bungie acknowledged the error on their official site, attributing it to the will of the Nine, stating, “Their will is their own.” The leaked Rite of the Nine activities in Update 8.2.5 were still in an early stage with placeholder art and perks. The final versions of these activities will be refined and optimized for Explorer, Eternity, and Ultimatum modes.
While accepting the mistake with good humor, Bungie assured players that the early weapons will remain in their inventories but may undergo modifications to prevent any unintended gameplay advantages. These weapons will be accessible when Rite of the Nine officially launches after the start of Heresy Act III.
In the meantime, Guardian Games participants can enjoy the new boss rush mode, Rushdown, and look forward to a limited-time PvP mode called Heavy Metal coming in Heresy Act III. This mode will introduce the opportunity for players to pilot a Brig. Bungie has also provided more details on what to expect from the upcoming Rite of the Nine event.
