Officially Licensed Sony Gamepad: Hori Octa Pro
The Hori Octa Pro gamepad is officially licensed by Sony and is compatible with PS5 and PC. It features two additional face buttons as R1 and R2, in addition to the standard four face buttons on the right side of the controller. Hori has implemented microswitches for all six face buttons to enhance accuracy and durability of inputs.
Despite the relocation of R1 and R2 to the front of the controller, the Octa Pro still maintains four tactile shoulder buttons. Users can also remap inputs to the pair of back buttons that are also included.
The 8-gate analog stick of the Octa Pro is specifically designed for fighting games, making diagonal inputs easier to execute compared to a standard controller. The package includes three hot-swappable D-pad designs, as well as a low-profile “analog slide pad” resembling the Switch’s Circle Pad, which is ideal for menu navigation.
For connectivity, the controller is wireless and comes with a USB-C cable for charging and wired play. A cable lock feature is included to prevent disconnections during gameplay, and the controller boasts a battery life of approximately 10 hours per charge. Additionally, it features a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output.
The Octa Pro also offers a cable lock feature on the back of the gamepad, allowing users to secure the cable in place to prevent accidental disconnections during intense gaming sessions. With a battery life of around 10 hours per charge, the Octa Pro delivers extended gameplay sessions. While the controller is technically compatible with PS4, it can only be used in wired mode on the previous generation console.
