Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 faced backlash from dedicated players who were against the game transitioning into a live-service model. Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive introduced community events as the primary way to obtain exclusive items for a limited time, leading to dissatisfaction among fans. In response to the negative feedback, Focus Entertainment issued an apology and reassured players that Space Marines 2 would not become a full live-service game.
In a recent community update, Focus Entertainment stated, “We have acknowledged the lukewarm reception of the Community Events since their introduction as an additional means to unlock cosmetic items. Many players expressed concerns about the fear of missing out (FOMO) created by these events. We want to clarify that our intention is not to transition Space Marine 2 into a complete live-service game. The items offered through events will eventually be accessible to all players. Our goal is for Community Events to provide early access to items for dedicated players, without causing frustration or stress for everyone.”
Furthermore, Focus mentioned, “We recognize the need for a smoother item unlocking process, which has been lacking thus far. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and are actively streamlining the procedure to make it less burdensome for players.”
As a gesture of goodwill, the emblem-less Mk VIII Errant Helmet will now be obtainable for free by all players who link their PROS account to Space Marine 2. Previously, this helmet was earmarked for players who achieved victories in all six classes in Operations mode before the conclusion of the Imperial Vigil community event.
Earlier this year, Focus Entertainment unveiled its roadmap for significant updates to Space Marine 2 throughout 2025. In addition, there have been reports of progress on Amazon Prime Video’s Warhammer 40,000 live-action series, potentially featuring Henry Cavill in a prominent role.
