Major Layoffs at Until Dawn Remake Studio Lead to Closure: Shocking New Report

Players of the Until Dawn Remake continue to report bugs to UK developer Ballistic Moon, but there seems to be no one left to respond. An anonymous source informed Insider Gaming that the studio has effectively closed.

Last September, an undisclosed number of layoffs were announced publicly, just before the launch of the Until Dawn remake in October. According to IG’s source, approximately 40 employees were affected. About 20 developers were reportedly retained for post-launch support until they were laid off in December, leaving only a few employees alongside the studio founders. There are no longer any employees in public relations, marketing, or development.

Ballistic Moon struggled to secure funding or publishers for new projects despite pitching ideas. While there were discussions about new Until Dawn projects with Sony, they never materialized. Actors Peter Stomare and Hayden Panettiere hinted at a possible sequel last year, but there have been no announcements from the original creators, Supermassive, who also underwent layoffs in January.

According to IG, most employees described it as a good place to work, but one source mentioned that the layoffs followed overtime and weeks of unpaid development work. They expressed frustration at the lack of compensation for their hard work.

It is crucial to pay your workers fairly and on time. If overtime is necessary, ensure that employees are compensated accordingly. Sony and Ballistic Moon have not responded to IG’s report, and further inquiries are pending.
