Kaitlyn Dever Joins HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 as Abby

Kaitlyn Dever has been announced as joining the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us for its upcoming second season, taking on the role of Abby. Fans of the game or those familiar with the story know the significance of Abby’s character in the narrative. When The Last of Us: Part II was released in 2020, the character of Abby, portrayed by actress Laura Bailey, sparked extreme reactions, including death threats directed at Bailey and her newborn child.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Dever acknowledged the controversy surrounding Abby but expressed her commitment to portraying the character authentically and in a way that will resonate with fans. She stated, “I want to do this character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this kind of way.”

Dever shared that she collaborated closely with showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann to delve into Abby’s character, exploring her emotions, motivations, and complexities. She emphasized the importance of capturing Abby’s anger, frustration, and grief, focusing her energy on embodying these aspects of the character.

The Last of Us Season 2 recently premiered a new trailer at SXSW, offering viewers a glimpse into the upcoming season. Set five years after the events of Season 1, the new season follows Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) as they navigate a shifting dynamic in their relationship.

Joining the cast for Season 2 are Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, reprising his role from the game, and Joe Pantoliano, known for his work in The Matrix and The Sopranos, as Eugene. Young Mazino takes on the role of Jesse in the upcoming season.

The highly anticipated Season 2 of The Last of Us is set to premiere on Sunday, April 13, with seven episodes planned for the season, down from nine in the previous season. Fans can expect at least two more seasons of The Last of Us in the future.

While speculation had arisen about the possibility of a third installment in the game series, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann hinted that the studio may not pursue The Last of Us: Part III. Instead, Naughty Dog is focusing on the development of a new single-player game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
