Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developers Saber Interactive are pushing back on player calls to add an even-harder difficulty mode, following the introduction of an Absolute difficulty setting this spring via game update.
Apparently, some players have found Absolute “a bit easy” compared to the preceding Lethal difficulty. Saber is open to suggestions but believes they are reaching the limit on making the game harder without sacrificing fairness and fun.
Game director Dmitriy Grigorenko stated that they are satisfied with the intensity of Absolute difficulty, requiring concentration and offering a challenging experience. While some players find it easy, Saber wants to hear from the community before making changes.
Grigorenko shared data indicating that the win rate on Absolute difficulty is higher than expected, likely due to experienced players unlocking this mode. Only a small percentage of players engage with Absolute difficulty, so Saber is cautious about increasing the challenge further to maintain balance.
The team is considering introducing new modifiers to enhance challenges, similar to past mechanics like Tight Formation. Grigorenko mentioned ongoing work on these modifiers and reader polls for potential tweaks to Absolute difficulty.
Saber aims to make each challenge unique with these modifiers and is focused on maintaining a balanced gameplay experience without compromising fairness and enjoyment for players.
