Fan Theories Sparked as Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored to Add GameCube Controller Compatibility

Despite being more than 20 years old, the GameCube controller remains popular with Nintendo fans, especially for certain games. A new FCC filing by Nintendo has sparked speculation among fans that the Switch 2 may support the GameCube controller, although the validity of this connection is uncertain.

According to a report by Famiboards (via Nintendo Life), fans noticed a FCC filing from Nintendo related to game controllers. The model number prefix attached to this filing is BEE, which is believed to be associated with the Switch 2. Upon seeing a mockup of a “wireless Bluetooth controller,” one fan superimposed the GameCube controller onto it, suggesting that the new controller could potentially be a wireless GameCube controller designed for the Switch 2.

While some fans argue that the mockup could be for the Switch 2 Pro Controller, the original poster pointed out that this controller lacks NFC functionality, a feature that a hypothetical Pro Controller would likely include.

It is worth mentioning that Nintendo has previously released wireless versions of classic video game controllers for its retro-focused Switch Online subscription service, such as the NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis controllers. Despite this, GameCube games are not currently available on Switch Online, leaving room for speculation about their potential inclusion.

Whether we will receive any clarification on this matter during the upcoming Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct in early April remains uncertain. We will provide updates as soon as we have more information.
