The Twisted Metal franchise has a long history, starting with its debut on the PS1 in 1995. After a reboot in 2012, the series seemed to disappear from Sony consoles. However, there was a canceled Twisted Metal live-service game that could have brought the series back to life. Hugo Silva, a developer from the project, recently shared some insights into what the game could have been.
Silva posted blurred screenshots from the canceled game on his website, noting that they were under a non-disclosure agreement. The images showcased a mix of vehicular combat and third-person shooter gameplay, indicating a new direction for the franchise. The project was being developed at Firesprite, a studio under Sony’s PlayStation Studios umbrella, but it was scrapped before the Concord launch that caused Sony to reassess its approach to live-service games.
While the future of Twisted Metal games remains uncertain, the franchise has gained renewed attention thanks to a live-action TV series on Peacock. The upcoming second season will feature familiar characters like John Doe, Quiet, and Sweet Tooth, with actors like Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, and Will Arnett involved in the project. With new additions to the cast and a return to Peacock later this year, fans of the series have something to look forward to.
